Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment today. Like many others that I've spoke to about her death, or comments or blogs I've seen thus far, the consensus is that everyone is saddened; however, nobody is surprised by it. Myself included. Since, "Back To Black" was released, it was no secret that Winehouse had an addiction to drugs and alcohol. Her songs were layered with insights to the dark, demons that haunted this troubled artist. Yet everyone more or less, just watched her, and ridiculed her on her downward spiral. We all watched it play out with her barely there concert performances, where she forgot the words, and her offstage antics. Often, I don't feel pity for those who misuse certain substances, but for Amy, I can't help but to feel pity for her. She was a beautiful woman with a lot of talent, and it is a misfortune that she had battled drugs and alcohol; which seems likely to have taken her life. It seems like she had so much more to give, but was taken away too early, like so many other great musicians at the age 27.
